Women's Soccer Announces Remaining Spring Season Dates

The Marquette women's soccer team has announced it will play eight matches during its 2009 spring season. The Golden Eagles will face opponents from the Atlantic-10, BIG EAST, Big 10, Big 12, Horizon League, Metro Atlantic, and Southland conferences. The schedule is loaded with quality teams, many of which finished with a winning record in 2008 including NCAA Tournament participants UW-Milwaukee, Kansas, and Texas A&M.
Marquette kicked off the spring season by hosting the sixth annual 'Tournament of Friends' at the Marquette Gym. The tournament featured two teams of current Marquette players, as well as an MU alumni team and squads from Wis.-Whitewater and Loyola (Ill.).
The Golden Eagles will move outdoors on Sunday, March 29 as they face Central Michigan and UW-Milwaukee. Marquette will meet Central Michigan at Noon and UW-Milwaukee at 2:15 p.m.
UWM was a 2008 NCAA Tournament qualifier and champions of the Horizon League while finishing the season with a record of 18-3-2. Central Michigan finished as the runner-up in the MAC and with an overall record of 12-5-3.
On Saturday, April 4 Marquette heads to St. Louis, Mo. where they will meet Saint Louis and Kansas. Saint Louis finished 11-6-4 in 2008 and advanced to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship. Meanwhile, the Jayhawks captured the Big 12 Tournament Championship and advanced to the second-round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Kansas posted a 2-1 win over Denver in the first round before falling to eventual National Semifinalist, Stanford, in the second round. The Jayhawks finished 2008 at 13-8-2.
A trip to College Station, Texas on Saturday, April 17 includes matches against Stephen F. Austin at 2:30 p.m. and a 7:30 p.m. showdown with Texas A&M. The Aggies were runners-up in the Big 12 and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament before falling to eventual NCAA Champion, North Carolina, in double overtime. Stephen F. Austin finished 2008 9-7-2 and advanced to the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament.
Marquette will close out its spring season at Solider Field in Chicago, Ill., where it will participate in the KICKS Against Breast Cancer Women's Collegiate Soccer Invitational on Sunday, April 26. There the Golden Eagles will face DePaul and Wisconsin.
