MILWAUKEE-- Marquette University head volleyball coach Bond Shymansky has announced the signing of outside hitter Ashley Beyer to a National Letter of Intent. Beyer will be eligible to play during the fall season and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
"We are very excited about Ashley joining our program," said head coach Bond Shymansky. "It has been a long recruiting process and it's rewarding to see the goal come to fruition. Ashley has a great all-around game, and will be a huge asset to our expected success this fall."
Beyer, a 2008 AVCA Two-Year Colleges First Team All-American, comes to the Golden Eagles following an impressive first year at Kishwaukee (Ill.) College, in which she set the school's single season kills record with 784. In her only year at Kishwaukee, Beyer led the Kougars to their third consecutive NJCAA Division II National Championship with a 56-3 record, en route to being named the tournament MVP. Beyer helped Kishwaukee become the first team in NJCAA Division II history to capture three straight national championships.
In addition to leading the nation with 784 kills, Beyer also topped the country with 197 aces and ranked 36th in hitting percentage. She also finished 2008 with 306 digs, placing her second on her team.
"I have been recruiting her for three years now, and she has continually improved," Shymansky said. "She has gotten stronger, faster, smarter, tougher and better. I know that she will be the type of player to run through walls for our coaching staff and her teammates."
As a prep, the 5-foot-11 Beyer played at Bloomington (Ill.) High School and led her squad to a 33-4 record as a senior and a berth in the Sweet Sixteen of the state tournament. In her final year at BHS, Beyer averaged 4.1 kills and 3.1 digs per set. Beyer also played for the Illini Elite Volleyball Club.
