MILWAUKEE-Junior setter Nikki Klingsporn was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for women's volleyball, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Klingsporn helped the Golden Eagles to a 3-0 record at the Panther Invitational against Western Michigan, South Dakota and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She was named the tournament's most valuable player for a performance which included a career-high 62 assists versus 2008 Sweet 16-participant Western Michigan. Against South Dakota, Klingsporn helped MU to an attack percentage of .373 as a squad and turned in 48 assists, six digs, five blocks and four kills against UWM.
In the final game of the weekend against Ohio State, Klingsporn's 46 assists and 13 digs almost led the Golden Eagles to a huge five-set victory before falling in the final frame.
Klingsporn and the Golden Eagles return to action Friday in the Michigan/adidas Invitational against tournament-host No. 6 Michigan at 1 p.m. ET. The Golden Eagles are 0-3 all time against Michigan, but Klingsporn was 3-1 as a member of the Wisconsin volleyball program.
