MILWAUKEE - Members of the Marquette women's basketball team along with Director of Basketball Operations Angie Lewis began its visits to various Milwaukee Public Schools. Juniors Jocelyn Mellen and Paige Fiedorowicz, senior Lauren Thomas-Johnson and Lewis visited Garden Homes School Thursday afternoon.
Thursday's visit to Garden Homes Elementary School commenced the school visit initiative. There, Mellen, Fiedorowicz and Thomas-Johnson discussed the team's five principles, "Believe, Commit, Mature, Respect and Thankfulness," as well as the importance of excellence in academics and what it takes to be a student-athlete.
The students had the opportunity to ask the Marquette student-athletes questions, and learn about ball-handling techniques.
From now through mid-October, the Golden Eagles will visit eight more Milwaukee Public Schools, including Milwaukee Sign Language School, Alcott School, Martin Luther King School, Story Elementary School, Trowbridge School, High Mount Community School, Walt Whitman School and Craig Montessori School.
