Golden Eagles Set to Host Marquette Invitational

MILWAUKEE- The Marquette University women's volleyball team will play host to the Marquette Invitational Friday at the Al McGuire Center. Matches begin with Butler and Austin Peay at noon before the Golden Eagles take the court for their first home match of the season against Texas State at 2 p.m.

"I think think the (tournament) is going to be great," head coach Bond Shymansky said. "We start off with Texas State, who is very strong in their conference and Butler on Friday evening. It's going to be a tough test for us. That much volleyball in a 24-hour stretch at home; we are going to rely on all of our players to step up. I think there is that extra nerve and anxiety involved with playing your first home match."

Marquette returns to action after defeating Eastern Kentucky, 3-0, on Aug. 28 and Loyola, 3-1, on Aug. 29, in addition to dropping a 3-1 decision to Iowa on Aug. 29.

Juniors Nikki Klingsporn and Leslie Bielski were each named to the Loyola Invitational All-Tournament Team this past weekend for their stellar play. Klingsporn set career highs in assists, digs and blocks, while Bielski recorded double-doubles against Iowa and Loyola.
