Golden Eagles Host No. 1 Connecticut Wednesday

The Marquette women's basketball team closes out the back end of a two-game homestand Wednesday evening against No. 1/1 Connecticut. Tip-off at the Al McGuire Center is set for 7 p.m.
The game can be seen live on Sports32 with Steve True (play-by-play) and Kareeda Chones-Aguam (analyst) calling all of the action courtside. The game can also be heard live on 540 ESPN Radio with Kent Sommerfeld on the call.
Following its match-up with the Huskies, Marquette will hit the road for its next two games playing at Villanova on Saturday, Jan. 16 and at Rutgers on Saturday, Jan. 23. The Golden Eagles will return home to play No. 24 Georgetown at the Al McGuire Center at 7 p.m, Wednesday, Jan. 27.
The Golden Eagles (11-5, 2-1 BIG EAST) enter the game with Connecticut following a win over Seton Hall, 69-44, Sunday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center. The Golden Eagles posted their best shooting percentage of the season, 48.9 (23-of-47), in the win.
Marquette will encounter Connecticut for the fifth time in a series that commenced when Marquette joined the BIG EAST, with the Huskies owning all four wins over Marquette. Last time the two team's met in Milwaukee, the Golden Eagles fell 83-49.
The reigning national champion Huskies are one of five undefeated Division I teams in the nation currently at 15-0 and own a 54-game win streak. Wednesday night's game will mark the second time in program history Marquette will host the top-ranked team in the nation, and only the fourth time the Golden Eagles have played a No. 1 team.
It will be a tough task for the Golden Eagles as the Huskies (15-0, 3-0 BIG EAST) are outscoring their opponents by almost 42 points per game. Reigning National Player of the Year Maya Moore leads Connecticut with 19.0 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, while BIG EAST Player of the Week Tina Charles follows with 17.6 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
