PISCATAWAY, N.J. -
Head Coach Terri Mitchell
Opening Statement
"It was a hard fought game. I'm really proud of our players effort. We fought to came back to take the lead in the second half after being down, but we just didn't stop their penetration and transition. Rutgers shot really well in the second half. They got a lot of easy looks in the paint. I thought the game could have went either way, but they really buckled down and did a good job at going at us."
About Pachko's play in the paint...
" I was disappointed we didn't go to her more down the stretch. I thought she did a great job of getting the ball inside. We started dribbling the ball too much and we needed to get her more touches towards the end."
About Pachko's positioning in the paint and being able to score...
"I think it all about positioning. Any post will tell you it's about working before you get the ball. I thought she did a good job working and our players found her."
About Rutgers aggressiveness...
"I thought they were aggressive like they always are. They put up 75 points today which obviously shows that they were more aggressive today. They were looking for quicker shots instead of using the clock, and transitioning more."
About Rutgers having three player score in double figures...
"They have a lot of talent on the team. Obviously Brittany (Ray) has taken a lot of that burden of scoring for them, but that is how good teams win. When you take the burden off one player and other players step up, like April (Sykes) did in the first half."
About Rushdan's two plays right after the four-minute media time out...
"That is what we talked about in the locker room. That was game changing. When you take the lead on the opponents' court, on the road, you have to draw a line in the sand and say you will do whatever it takes to win. We let her go right down the middle and score. That's an emotional play for them and it got the crowd involved. If we got a stop, it takes the crowd a little bit out of it and possibly force them to think about the turnover they had. All of that went out the window because we didn't stop her. That changed the game right there. We took a quick shot and they turned around and came right at us. Pretty much, emotionally, the game was over at that point."
