MILWAUKEE -
The Marquette women's basketball team will return to the road this weekend to play at conference rival DePaul. The Golden Eagles will play at McGrath Arena Sunday, Jan. 31, at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU with Brook Weisbrod and Jim Barbar calling the action.
At the midpoint of the conference season, the Golden Eagles stand in seventh place in the BIG EAST with a 4-3 league record. Marquette upset No. 17/15 Georgetown, 52-45, Wednesday at the Al McGuire Center ending the Hoyas' 16-game win streak.
Marquette held Georgetown to a season-low 45 points. It also limited the Hoyas to shoot just 34.7 percent from the floor. Georgetown entered the game with Marquette averaging 72.7 points per game and a 41.9 shooting percentage.
MU's defense has held four BIG EAST opponents (Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, Connecticut and Georgetown) to score below its scoring average and shoot below its field goal percentage.
DePaul sits right below Marquette in the league standings in a four-way tie for eighth place with a 3-4 conference record. Sam Quigley leads the Blue Demons with 13.9 points per game. Keisha Hampton and Anna Martin follow with 13.0 and 10.7 ppg, respectively.
The two teams will meet for the 51st time in series history Sunday. Marquette is 20-30 all time against the Blue Demons in a series that dates back to 1978. DePaul won the last meeting in Chicago, 74-60, on Feb. 28, 2009.
Head coach Terri Mitchell and DePaul head coach Doug Bruno have met 27 times since 1996 with Bruno holding the slight edge, 15-12, but Marquette has won five of the last eight games.
The Golden Eagles are 4-20 when playing in Chicago, 1-7 when playing at McGrath Arena. Marquette earned its first win at McGrath Arena during the 2006-07 season, 82-79. Krystal Ellis scored a game-high 29 points in that win.
