MILWAUKEE - Following another 2-0 weekend that capped an undefeated six-game BIG EAST Conference road schedule, freshman defender Katie Hishmeh was tabbed the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week and junior defender Kerry McBride was named to the weekly Honor Roll. The selections were announced today by conference officials.
The duo both played key defensive roles in a weekend where the Golden Eagles allowed just one goal and earned a shutout for two road wins. McBride and Hishmeh were integral in limiting Connecticut to just two shots on goal for the game. With a perfect 7-0-0 conference record, Marquette clinched a berth in the 2010 BIG EAST Championship.
The Rookie of the Week honor is the first for Hishmeh, who has logged the most minutes of any field player, while McBride's Honor Roll selection is also the first of her career.
Marquette will return home to Valley Fields to play its final four games of the regular season starting Friday, Oct. 15 against Cincinnati. Friday will be a special night for the Golden Eagles, as it will wear special pink jerseys as part of their Cancer Awareness Night at Valley Fields.
