Golden Eagles Conclude First Weekend of Spring Campaign, 8-1

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Marquette University women's volleyball team competed in its first sets of the spring campaign Saturday, taking eight of nine sets from USF and Central Florida.
The Golden Eagles were able to sweep the Bulls, 4-0, and went 4-1 against the Golden Knights.
Ashley Beyer led the way with a combined 32 kills, 14 of those coming against USF and the other 18 against UCF. Against UCF, Beyer hit .350 and combined to hit .282 over the entire weekend.
Behind Beyer was sophomore Ciara Jones with 19 kills and junior Rabbecka Gonyo with 17.
Freshmen Kelsey Mattai and Danielle Carlson also hit extremely well. Mattai led MU with a .466 attack percentage (10-3-15), while Carlson did not record an error in 30 attacks.
While in Florida over the University's spring break, the members of head coach Bond Shymansky's squad were able to cheer on their classmates on the golf team at the Rio Pinar Invitational, also being played in Orlando. Then on Thursday evening both the volleyball and golf squads had a viewing party to cheer on the MU men's basketball team in its NCAA Tournament First Round game against Washington.
The Golden Eagles return to action this weekend when they host Iowa at the Al McGuire Center at 1:30 p.m.. The sets are open to the public and free to attend.
