MILWAUKEE - Junior Kelly Kretz was Marquette University's top individual finishing tied for 25th place, while senior Mike McDonald carded the Golden Eagles' low-round Sunday by closing out the FAU Spring Break Championship with an even-par 71 at Gleneagles Country Club.
Marquette closed at 15th in the team standings, scoring three strokes better than the University of Wisconsin. MU tallied a 304 Sunday, matching the team's second-round score on Saturday, to finish at 906.
McDonald's final round was his best round of the tournament. He was able to get to one-under par by rattling off three straight birdies on a stretch of par fours, beginning with the 355-yard hole two, but a bogey on the par-three hole six brought the MU senior back to even.
Kretz finished at 219 (68-76-75) to lead the Golden Eagles, followed by McDonald at 225 (75-79-71). Illniois' Chris DeForest helped the Illini win the team title by taking home individual medalist honors at eight-under 205 (67-68-70).
MU will return to action next weekend at the Charlotte Invitational which is being played at the Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, N.C., April 2-4.
