Golden Eagles Meet DePaul in BIG EAST Championship Second Round

The Marquette women's basketball team resumes play in the 2010 BIG EAST Championship Presented by New York Life Insurance Saturday as it takes on No. 7 seed DePaul in second round action Saturday at the XL Center at 6 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. CT.
The game will air live on BIG EAST Regional Television, locally on Sports32, with Justin Kutcher (play by play) and Meg Bulger (analyst) on the call.
A win over the?Blue Demons would pit Marquette against No. 2 seed West Virginia in the BIG?EAST?Quarterfinals on Sunday, March 7 at 6 p.m. ET, on ESPNU.
The Golden Eagles stamped their ticket to the second round, and improved to 2-4 all-time in BIG EAST Championship play, by defeating Villanova, 53-49. Sarina Simmons recorded one of the most complete games of her young career scoring a team-high 13 points and pulling down six rebounds. Jessica Pachko added 10 points and nine rebounds, and Angel Robinson contributed seven points, nine rebounds and five assists.
The two teams will meet for the 53rd time in series history Satrurday. Marquette is 20-32 all-time against the Blue Demons in a series that dates back to 1978. DePaul won both of the regular-season meetings, in Chicago, 73-63, on Jan. 31, and in Milwaukee, 72-63 on Feb. 20.
Marquette is 2-1 all-time against the Blue Demons in conference tournament play. Marquette defeated DePaul 80-65 in the 1997 Conference USA Quarterfinals and 74-70 in the 2004 C-USA Quarterfinals. The two teams met in the first round of the 2008 BIG EAST Tournament with DePaul claiming the win, 73-69.
