MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's soccer team continues spring season play Saturday at Valley Fields with a pair matches against DePaul and Wisconsin. The Golden Eagles will take on the Blue Demons at 10:30 a.m., and face Wisconsin at 1:30 p.m. Admission is free.
"The team is looking forward to hosting an in-state and a BIG EAST rival on Saturday," said head coach Markus Roeders. "These should be highly competitive games in addition to the teams we have already played this spring. If we continue to improve, it will be a positive 'play date'."
Wisconsin advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2009 for the first time since 1993, while DePaul earned its first winning record since 2003 at 10-9-2 overall.
"Wisconsin is coming off a successful 2009 season , and playing them now will be a good measuring stick to where we want or need to be in the fall. DePaul is a BIG EAST rival and although we don't play them each year, we could face them in the playoffs. Both squads have many returning starters on their sides, we will need to play well to have success with what we have been working on in practice and games so far," said Roeders.
Both games will feature full squads and last 70 minutes (two 35-minute halves).
Marquette is 3-0-1 in spring season play with its latest wins coming over Nebraska, 2-1, and UW-Milwaukee, 4-0. Seven different Golden Eagles have accounted for MU's nine total goals in spring play.
