Simmons Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

MILWAUKEE - Sophomore Sarina Simmons of the Marquette University women's basketball team was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll announced by conference officials Monday. Simmons helped the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 week, including a win over No. 6/7 West Virginia, which ended Mountaineers' 16-game win streak.
Simmons averaged 12.0 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the floor in wins over the Mountaineers and USF. Against WVU, Simmons ignited an 11-0 run in which she scored six points to give Marquette a 50-41lead over the Mountaineers with 11 minutes to play in the game. Simmons finished the game with 14 points.
She followed that performance with her fourth double-double of the season, 10 points and 10 rebounds, in a 61-55 come-from-behind win at USF. This weekly honor roll nod is the first of her career.
