MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's basketball team will look for another BIG EAST road win when it plays at Pittsburgh Saturday, Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT.
The Golden Eagles (16-4, 4-3 BIG EAST) used a balanced scoring effort with four players in double figures in a 76-65 win over Louisville Wednesday. They currently are in a tie for fifth place in the BIG EAST standings along with the Cardinals and Georgetown. Marquette has found success early this season on the road with consecutive wins away from the Al McGuire Center over Georgetown and USF.
Tatiyiana McMorris poured in a career-high 21 points in the win over the Cardinals to push her double-figure scoring streak to nine games. McMorris currently leads the Golden Eagles in BIG EAST games with 15.0 points per game. The senior from the Bronx, N.Y., has been hot from behind the arc this season posting a team-best 39.8 3-point shooting percentage. That mark ranks 12th in the BIG EAST, while the Golden Eagles stand second in the league with a collective 35.0 shooting percentage from long distance.
Pittsburgh (9-10, 1-5 BIG EAST) enters the game with Marquette on a three-game skid with two of those losses coming away from the Petersen Events Center. Taneisha Harrison leads the Panthers with 13.7 points per game.
The Golden Eagles own a 5-2 edge over the Panthers since the series commenced in 2006. Marquette won the last meeting against then No. 20/18 Pittsburgh, 66-55, at the Al McGuire Center, but has never defeated the Panthers on their home court. In its last time out at Petersen Event Center, Pittsburgh handled Marquette 86-54 on Jan. 30, 2009. Prior to that loss, the Golden Eagles won the two previous meetings on Feb. 23, 2008 (76-69) in Milwaukee and in the quarterfinals of the 2007 BIG EAST Tournament (61-41) on March 4, 2007.
