MILWAUKEE - Junior outside hitter Ciara Jones of the Marquette University women's volleyball team was named to COBRA Magazine's All-National Third Team, the publication recently announced.
"Ciara had a breakout season and opponents had to take note," head coach Bond Shymansky said. "She improved her hitting efficiency by almost 60 points from last season, and developed a wide variety of skill shots. Most importantly, Ciara worked to become a true go-to player for us as an outside hitter. When the game was on the line, we knew that Ciara would get it done."
The Orlando, Fla., native was second in kills for the Golden Eagles with a career-high 379 (3.30 kills per set) and hit a combined .260 (379 kills, 130 errors, 956 total attacks) during the season.
With the help of Jones and AVCA Honorable Mention All-Americans Ashley Beyer, Rabbecka Gonyo and Nikki Klingsporn, Marquette advanced to the semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship for the second time in school history and notched a school-record 23 victories and 11 conference wins.
Jones was also named all-region by the magazine at the conclusion of the season.
COBRA Magazine is the first publication that primarily showcases the talents of collegiate volleyball players of African descent.
