MILWAUKEE - Junior defender Kerry McBride of the Marquette women's soccer team picked up yet another postseason award recently as she was named to the 2010 Soccer America MVPs Second Team.
"Kerry had a phenomenal season," said head coach Markus Roeders. "We are proud of her accomplishments and what she has done on the field and in the classroom. She has been very humble about her individual accolades and that is one reason she is special. Although she doesn't always show it, Kerry is very competitive and loves to play and win. She embraced her role on the team this year and had a huge impact on our team's success throughout."
McBride, the BIG EAST's Defensive Player of the Year, anchored Marquette's back line as its sweeper this season. She helped one of the best defenses in the BIG EAST allow 22 goals overall and just eight in BIG EAST play. McBride limited the opposition to just 7.7 shots on goal per game, including just 3.5 shots on goal in BIG EAST play.
McBride was also named to the All-BIG EAST First Team along with her Defensive Player of the Year honors. She earned national acclaim with her selection to the NSCAA/Performance Subaru All-America Third Team and earned NSCAA All-Northeast Region First Team honors as well.
The Golden Eagles finished the 2010 season 16-5-3 overall, and ranked No. 12 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and No. 9 by Soccer America. Marquette won the BIG EAST American Division Title for the second straight season with a perfect 11-0-0 record, and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship.
