CINCINNATI, Ohio -
Head Coach Terri Mitchell
On earning a first round bye in the BIG EAST Tournament...
"I like the one bye we have. I know there is a lot of discussion about where the future of the tournament if there continues to be a double bye. Right now I am still feeling the sting of this loss and I thought our feet were in cement all night. We gave up a big one, Cincinnati, and now you just got to learn from it and move on and go into the tournament strong. I definitely like the one bye day we have so we can watch, have an extra day of rest and then get to it on Saturday."
About the game overall...
"I felt like we had that huge emotional let down from our game at DePaul. We talked to our players about it, and you know it was a battle playing DePaul Saturday night. It was physical, it was emotional and senior night. We looked dead, we looked dead out there defensively tonight. You know our offense shoots 51 percent and I think that is good, but we didn't play defense at all. I give Cincinnati credit for going at us and making their shots, and even when we took our lead late in the game we let them come back. The players need to feel the sting of this loss all week and get ready for the BIG EAST Tournament, because on any given night in this league, which is the best league in the country, you can lose."
About game preparation for the week...
"Well there is two things we need to accomplish this week. One, give us the rest that we need because we definitely need rest. Two, we need to get that hunger back because you lose a game like this you are not playing hungry and that really disappoints me. We are going to learn from it. The great character about this team is that every time we have had a loss we have comeback stronger, so I am hoping this motivates us."
About the how tough the BIG EAST Tournament is...
"I think our tournament you makes teams mentally stronger and physically stronger because our league is so tough. If you win the BIG EAST Tournament you are going to be ready to win the NCAA tournament and that is what I believe from the depths of my heart. The teams that do well and and advance to the semis and or the championship will be as ready as any team in the country to make a run in the NCAA Tournament."
