Volleyball Goes 2-1 in First Spring Weekend

AURORA, Ill. - The Marquette University women's volleyball team went 2-1 Saturday at the Great Lakes Center Collegiate Challenge with victories over Valparaiso and Louisville and a defeat at the hands of Western Michigan.
The Golden Eagles began the day by dropping the first set, 25-16, to the Broncos before rallying for a second-set victory, 25-20. Marquette dropped the third and final set 15-12 to WMU for its only match loss of the day.
MU also got off to a slow start against Valparaiso with a 25-17 first-set loss before taking the next two sets and the match, 25-20 and 17-15.
Against the BIG EAST Conference-rival Cardinals, MU notched a 25-20, 25-22 sweep.
Junior Ciara Jones led the Golden Eagles with 22 kills, while sophomore Danielle Carlson notched 21 kills. Fellow sophomore Carol Henney connected on 11 of her 21 attacks and junior outside hitter Ashley Beyer notched 20 kills on the afternoon.
Marquette returns to action Saturday at Wisconsin and returns home for a pair of matches against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Northwestern on Thursday, April 7 and 14, respectively. Both matches at the Al McGuire Center are free and open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m.
