The Marquette University men’s basketball team will face Cincinnati, Georgetown and Villanova in home-and-home series in 2011-12 BIG EAST Conference play, the league office announced Thursday morning.
The Golden Eagles have learned where they will take on their fellow league programs next season, but the layout of the actual schedule has yet to be determined. In 2011-12, MU’s crossover trio consisted of UConn, Notre Dame and Seton Hall. The 2011-12 schedule breakdown is listed below.
HOME GAMES: Cincinnati, Georgetown, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, St. John’s, Seton Hall, USF, Villanova
ROAD GAMES: Cincinnati, Connecticut, DePaul, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Providence, Syracuse, Villanova, West Virginia
Each league team will play 12 or 13 games against last season’s NCAA Tournament squads, with no more than seven of those games being either home or away. Fifteen of the teams play two of their three home-and-home series against NCAA Tournament teams. Remarkably, 91 percent of conference games include at least one NCAA Tournament participant, and 47 percent match two NCAA teams. No team has all three repeat opponents the same as last year. Five teams have three totally new repeat opponents from 2010-11 and seven teams have two new repeat opponents. In total across the league, 17-of-24 crossover opponents are different this season from last. Season tickets will be available for as little as $125 beginning on July 18. Five-game mini plans, which will include four BIG EAST matchups and Vanderbilt, go on sale on August 1.
The complete non-conference schedule will begin to be released on GoMarquette.com beginning on July 5. One opponent will be announced each morning.
