MILWAUKEE - Senior outside hitter Ciara Jones of the Marquette University women's volleyball team was named to COBRA Magazine's All-Preseason Second Team. COBRA selected 45 players to its all-preseason teams and eight players as preseason national player of the year candidates.
"Ciara is a leader, a captain, a go-to terminator and a great person to have in our program," Marquette head coach Bond Shymansky said. "She had a break-out year last season, and we expect her to build on that and take us all the way to a BIG EAST Championship."
Jones was second in kills for the Golden Eagles in 2010 with a career-high 379 (3.30 kills per set) and a hitting percentage of .260 (379 kills, 130 errors, 956 total attacks).
She was also named to the all-national third team and all-region by the magazine at the conclusion of the 2010 season.
COBRA Magazine primarily showcases the talents of collegiate volleyball players of African descent.
The Golden Eagles finished third in the BIG EAST this past season with a school-record 23 wins and 11 BIG EAST Conference victories.
The Golden Eagles begin the 2011 fall campaign on Aug. 26 at the Hawkeye Challenge in Iowa City, Iowa against Saint Louis. Marquette will serve as host of the 2011 BIG EAST Women's Volleyball Championship on Nov. 18-20 at the Al McGuire Center.
