The match will be broadcast live on GoMarquette.com's multimedia platform, MUTube, and shown on a tape-delay basis on Sports32, beginning Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.
The Golden Eagles (7-3) are coming off a tournament championship in the Marquette/Milwaukee Invitational, led by senior outside hitter Ashley Beyer's most valuable player honors. Beyer averaged 4.22 kills and 2.33 digs per set in wins over Southern Miss, Akron and Milwaukee en route to the second BIG EAST Player of the Week honors of her career. The Bloomington, Ill., native was a 2011 All-BIG EAST Preseason Team selection and has rounded into form in recent matches after being slowed by a preseason injury.
Marquette junior middle hitter Danielle Carlson and sophomore libero Julie Jeziorowski were also named to the all-tournament team this past weekend. Carlson hit a combined .625 with an average of 3.25 kills in the final two matches against Akron and Milwaukee, while Jeziorowski turned in 5.22 digs per set over the entire weekend.
Sophomore setter Chelsea Heier also continued to shine last weekend with 13.00 assists per set to increase her season average to 12.15, tops in the BIG EAST Conference.
The Phoenix (3-7) is led by senior right-side hitter Abbey Gitter's 2.68 kills per set, while junior middle blocker Carmen Leitermann averages 2.67 kills and has hit .296 on the season. Green Bay competed at the Saluki Invitational on Sept. 9-10 and captured a three-set victory in their final match over Murray State.
Marquette holds a 27-9 advantage in the all-time series against Green Bay, including a 3-1 victory on Oct. 13, 2010 at the Kress Events Center. Beyer led the way in that contest with 17 kills, while Carlson notched 13 of her own and hit .545 in the four-set win.
The Golden Eagles have claimed the last 12 meetings in the series and have collected a 36-6 set record in that timeframe, including six three-set sweeps. The Phoenix has not won more than a single set against Marquette since a 3-2 Green Bay victory at the Marquette Gym on Sept. 17, 1996.
