MILWAUKEE - Former Marquette star Wesley Matthews is on the NBA All-Star Ballot for the first time in his career, joining fellow Golden Eagle alum Dwyane Wade who is searching for his eighth NBA All-Star Game appearance.
Matthews averages 15.6 points and 3.8 rebounds for the 6-2 Portland Trailblazers, who are off to their best start since 1999-00 (7-1). The third-year shooting guard is hitting better than 40 percent of his shots from 3-point range (16-pf-39) in just over 32 minutes per game.
The Blazers second-leading scorer participated in last season's T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam during NBA All-Star Weekend at the Staples Center, scoring 15 points as a starter for the sophomore team.
Wade, the 2010 NBA All-Star Game MVP, is searching for his eighth all-star appearance. The former consensus All-American averages 18.8 points and 6.5 assists per game through six contests this season.
Matthews and Wade are joined in the NBA by fellow Marquette alumni Steve Novak (New York Knicks), Lazar Hayward (Oklahoma City Thunder) and Jimmy Butler (Chicago Bulls).
