Mertens Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll

MILWAUKEE - Holly Mertens of the Marquette University women's volleyball team was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll, the league announced Monday, Oct. 22.

Mertens hit .472 (31-6-53) in two matches over the weekend, including Marquette's first victory over Cincinnati since 2006. The redshirt senior averaged 4.43 kills per set against the Bearcats and No. 15 Louisville, including a match-high 18 kills against Cincinnati on Friday evening.

It is Mertens' second weekly honor this season after the Stanley, Wis., native earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors on Monday, Oct. 8 for her play in wins over Notre Dame and DePaul.

Marquette is receiving 37 votes in Monday's latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll, two spots outside the top 25.

The Golden Eagles return to action Friday, Oct. 26 at Georgetown and Sunday, Oct. 28 at Villanova.
