MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's soccer team has been recognized with a 2011-12 Team Academic Excellence Award for having the highest collective grade-point averages in its sport.
The winners were chosen based on the 2011-12 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
The Golden Eagles boasted a 3.49 grade point average for the fall of 2011 and won the BIG EAST American Division Championship for the third straight season. Six student-athletes, Kate Reigle, Ally Miller, Maggie Edlebeck, Ashley Stemmeler, Sophie Schunk and Karissa Miller, each earned a 4.0 GPA at least one semester during the 2011-12 academic year.
Marquette also earned its 16th consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Award following the season. Natalie Kulla and Kerry McBride were selected to the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team along with earning Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 First Team honors. Kate Reigle was also named to the first team, while Lindsey Page was named to the second team.
