NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams kicked off their indoor season Friday at Notre Dame's Blue & Gold Invitational at the Loftus Sports Center in Notre Dame, Ind.
Caryle Schuh, John Kaplan, Omo Tseumah and Michael Saindon all claimed event titles for the Golden Eagles.
Schuh, a senior jumps specialist, won the long jump with a program-record mark of 6.06 meters (19 feet, 10.75 inches). The Appleton, Wis. native broke her own mark of 5.93 meters (19, 5 1/2), which previously had been the program record. Schuh also finished third out of 18 competitors in the 200-meter run.
Sophomore John Kaplan also had a very successful day, notching a personal-best mark of 4.75 meters (15-7) en route to an event title in the pole vault. Kaplan's efforts earned him the second-best pole vaulting mark in program history.
Freshman Omo Tseumah, making her collegiate debut Friday, captured the high jump event with a mark of 1.62 meters in the final round.
MU also received a strong contribution from senior Michael Saindon who claimed the high jump event title with a leap of 2.05 meters (6-8.75). Teammate Max Kilpin finished just behind him with a mark of 1.90 meters.
Senior sprinter Kate Hein secured a second place finish in the 500-meter run with a mark of 1:15.62, just a few ticks off of her own program-record time of 1:13.48. Sophomore Nicole Ethier notched a new personal-best mark of 1:16.41 in the event.
Sophomore Anton Rice finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.83, while fellow sophomore Brett Tobin finished second in the triple jump.
The 4x400-meter relay squad of Katie Kemmerer, Anna Strong, Gretchen Homan and Hein earned a second place finish in the event with a time of 3:53.76, which is good for the 10th-best mark in program history.
The Golden Eagles will have more than a month off from competition before taking on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Friday, Jan. 17 at the Klotsche Center.
