MILWAUKEE - Fresh of the first consecutive wins in program history, the Marquette University women's lacrosse team will host its first home game of the year on Friday, March 7 as the squad welcomes Duquesne to Valley Fields for a 1 p.m. opening draw.
The Golden Eagles (2-2) captured victories at Michigan (12-10) and Detroit (15-9) last weekend and look to carry that momentum into their second all-time meeting against the Dukes.
Freshman Julianna Shearer led Marquette with 10 points on nine goals and an assist in three games last week, while classmate Amanda Bochniak posted three goals and six assists over that span.Sophomore midfielder Hayley Baas was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll for a pair of hat tricks recorded on Tuesday at No. 4 Northwestern and against Detroit on Sunday. She notched seven points and an assist over MU's last three games to earn league recognition.
Duquesne (1-1) enters the game coming off a hard fought 11-7 loss at No. 8 Penn State on Tuesday, Feb. 25 in which they led 7-6 just under seven minutes into the second half. The Nittany Lions went on the score the final five goals of the game for the victory.
Junior Amanda Kidder leads the Dukes with nine points, including a team-high eight goals, and also has a squad-best seven draw controls and five caused turnovers. Senior Kristen Gregory has earned the decision on each game this season and enters Friday with an 8.51 goals against average and a .480 save percentage.
Duquesne defeated the Golden Eagles 11-7 at Valley Fields on Feb. 23, 2013 in the first home game in Marquette women's lacrosse history. MU goalie Sarah Priem made 12 saves in that contest as Marquette was out-shot 33-19. Then-junior Caitlin Prince set the pace for the Dukes with a game-high three goals.
