MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's lacrosse team concludes a three-game road stretch at Rutgers on Friday, April 11 at RU Turf Field at 4 p.m. CT and at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex at Connecticut on Sunday, April 13 at 11 a.m. CT.
The Golden Eagles (5-6, 1-1 BIG EAST) are coming off a 12-5 loss at then-No. 19/RV Georgetown on Saturday afternoon in which they went scoreless in the second half as the Hoyas broke free from a 5-5 halftime tie. Leading scorer Claire Costanza and freshman Amanda Bochniak each posted three points in the loss, while sophomore goalie Sarah Priem tied career highs with 14 saves and six ground balls. MU was outshot 34-10 for the game, including a 19-2 disparity in the second half.
Costanza, who scored 18 goals as a freshman, has 16 markers through the first 11 games of 2014, all of which have come in the last nine contests. Bochniak has also found the back of the net in all but two games this season.
Priem was name to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Tuesday for her efforts in the setback to the Hoyas.
Rutgers (6-6, 0-2 BIG EAST) is coming off a pair of losses to Villanova and Connecticut to begin league action and has scored 11 goals in each of its last three contests. The Scarlet Knights average just 7.42 goals per game and are led by 16 tallies from Lauren Sbrilli.
Midfielder Kristin Kocher led RU with a game-high four goals and one assist in the overtime loss to UConn on Saturday and chipped in five draw controls.
Connecticut (7-4, 2-0 BIG EAST) will face Georgetown on Friday before welcoming the Golden Eagles on Sunday. The Huskies enter the weekend as winners of six-straight contests and are averaging 11 goals per game on the season. Senior Lauren Kahn, the 2013 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year, leads UConn with 41 points this season on 24 goals and 17 assists, while sophomore Katherine Finkelston leads the squad with 27 goals.
In 2013, the Golden Eagles fell 9-4 to Rutgers at Valley Fields on March 24 before dropping a 15-4 decision at UConn on April 19.
After this weekend's road swing, Marquette returns to the Milwaukee area to host Temple on Thursday, April 17 and Villanova on Saturday, April 19 at Hart Park in Wauwatosa.
