Highlights
The Golden Eagles (2-4-1) battled all the way back from a 4-0 deficit, but ultimately were not able to sustain the Milwaukee attack, allowing the Panthers to score the deciding goal in the 88th minute. Marquette fought back to knot things up at four goals each when freshman Heather Handwork scored the equalizer in the 85th minute off a cross from teammate Meegan Johnston.
Milwaukee's Sydney Senn knocked the game-winning shot past the outstretched arms of senior goalkeeper Sofie Schunk who had entered the game in the 69th minute, replacing Amanda Engel.
MU trailed 3-0 at the intermission, after Morgan LaPlant, Krissy Dorre, and Kelly Lewers all found the back of the net for the Panthers in the first 45 minutes of action. Milwaukee carried its momentum into the second stanza opening up the scoring in the 62nd minute when Vienna Behnke executed an impressive offensive maneuver in the box, crossing over her dribble and beating Engel.
The Blue and Gold went on a 4-0 scoring run during a 17 minute stretch between the 68th and 85th minute. Senior Mary Luba ignited the Marquette offense in the 68th minute when she converted a penalty kick after Milwaukee was called for a handball in the box.
Freshman Caroline Fink scored her first goal of her career soon after when she corralled a rebound off the goalpost and nudged it past the Milwaukee keeper. In the 77th minute, senior Mady Vicker played an excellent ball to Liz Bartels. Bartels received Vicker's cross and proceeded to rocket it off the goalpost and into the back of the net for MU's third score.
Thursday's defeat marks the first time MU has fallen at the hands of Milwaukee since 2008, when the Golden Eagles fell 1-0 to the Panthers at Valley Fields. Marquette is now 9-8-6 all-time against the Panthers.
Marquette returns to action this Sunday when it travels to College Station, Texas to take on the Texas A&M Aggies at 7 p.m. Central time.
