The Marquette University men's basketball team (11-18, 3-14 BIG EAST) wraps up the 2014-15 regular season when the team hosts rival DePaul (12-18, 6-11 BIG?EAST) at 1 p.m. CT?on Saturday, March 7 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. FOX Sports 2 will feature Marquette's 26th national television broadcast of the campaign, with Wayne Larrivee (play-by-play) and Dickey Simpkins (analyst) calling the action. Prior to the game, the Golden Eagles will honor the accomplishments of Juan Anderson, Matt Carlino and Derrick Wilson as part of the program's Senior Day festivities. Following Saturday's outing, MU will open play at the BIG EAST Tournament presented by New York Life on Wednesday, March 11.
Plenty Of History In Marquette-DePaul Series
Marquette's all-time series with DePaul dates back to the 1917-18 campaign (second year of MU's varsity competition) and includes 115 previous meetings.
The Golden Eagles own a 70-45 advantage in the series, but the Blue Demons claimed the most recent outing, a 61-58 decision on Dec. 31 in the league opener for both programs. MU led by as many as 13 points in the second half before DePaul stormed back to take the lead in the closing moments. Senior guard Matt Carlino and freshman guard Duane Wilson led the way offensively with 11 points, but Marquette shot just 38.6 percent from the field as a team. Senior forward Juan Anderson narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with nine points and eight rebounds in a team-high 38 minutes of action.
In program history, Marquette has faced only Wisconsin (121) and Notre Dame (118) on more occasions.
BIG EAST Tourney Seeding Narrows For MU
Entering the final weekend of the BIG EAST regular season, the Golden Eagles know they will be opening tourney action on Wednesday, March 11, but aren't sure of their actual seeding.
Marquette, which is currently in 10th place, could finish in the ninth position if the team were to conclude the year with the same amount of wins as Creighton. The Golden Eagles and the Bluejays split the regular season series and the next tiebreaker is record versus the top teams in the standings. Through games of March 5, MU's Jan. 3 win over Providence would give Marquette the slight edge.
The 8/9 matchup is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on March 11, with the 7/10 contest slated for 8:30 p.m. at Madison Square Garden.
Taylor, Jr. Rebounds For A Record Total
Junior forward Steve Taylor, Jr., who hadn't reached double figures in rebounds since grabbing 12 versus NJIT on Nov. 24, was all over the court against St. John's Wednesday night en route to a 17-carom effort in 31 minutes off the bench.
The total matched the highest in BIG EAST play for a Marquette player, tying Lazar Hayward's mark set against DePaul on Jan. 24, 2009. Six of Taylor, Jr.'s rebounds came at the offensive and accounted for over 40 percent (17-of-41) of the team's total for the game.
The Chicago, Illinois, native's total surpassed his efforts in the previous five games combined.
