MU Closes Regular Season at Hawkeye-GRE Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Senior Brandon Cloete fired a final round 2-under-par 70 to finish at 219 for the weekend, leading Marquette in its eighth-place finish (295-288-297--880) at the Hawkeye-GRE Invitational at Finkbine Golf Club on Sunday.
After closing Saturday's first 36 holes at 5-over-par (74-75), Cloete was one of 14 players in the 66-man field to finish his round under par on Sunday and finish the tournament in a tie for 23rd. Cloete, who teed off on the 11th hole, started his day with par golf on the back nine before posting three birdies on the front nine to slip under par for the day.
Cloete was a shot ahead of Pat Sanchez, who finished in a tie for 30th (70-72-78--220) after shooting 6-over-par on the final day. Still, after posting a 2-under-par score through 36 holes, Sanchez finished at 220 or better for the second weekend in a row and a team-best fifth time this season.
With regular season play complete, Marquette begins the 2015 BIG EAST Championships a week from today, next Sunday through Tuesday (April 26-28) at Callawassie Island Golf Course in the Lowcountry of South Carolina.
