2015 Women's Soccer Roster MILWAUKEE - Head coach Markus Roeders has announced 10 newcomers for the Marquette University women's soccer program in 2015, featuring nine incoming freshmen and one sophomore transfer.
"We are thrilled that these ladies will be joining us as student-athletes this fall," Roeders said. "They are very talented players but more importantly, they are fantastic people and students. Each one of them has played and trained at the highest level and we look forward to them making the transition into our team and soccer at Marquette. They will fit great into our 'Family' environment and their talents will continue to elevate our program at the highest national level."
The 10 student-athletes hail from five different states, including Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and Michigan with one Marquette women's soccer legacy in Allison Jacobson, the younger sister of the recently-graduated Emily and Cara Jacobson.
"Allie (Jacobson) will be the third Jacobson sister playing soccer for us," Roeders said. "It's a wonderful and unique situation and it speaks volumes for the experience she is seeking at Marquette. We are thrilled that she is coming after Cara and Emily had such storied careers. We won't compare her to her older siblings because Allie has her own distinct playing style, but there's no doubt she's prepared and ready to make a difference."
The group includes three forwards in Jacobson, Jamie Kutey (Overland Park, Kansas) and Hailey VanDerLeest (Fenton, Missouri) and four midfielders in Leah Celarek (Schaumburg, Illinois), Courtney Dugan (Glen Ellyn, Illinois), Emma McCarthy (Cary, Illinois) and Daniell Sobelman (Glendale, Wisconsin). Defenders Bri Jager (Cedarburg, Wisconsin) and Dayton-transfer Caitlin Carroll (Macomb, Michigan) join freshman goalkeeper Sloane Carlson (St. Louis) on the backline.
"Caitlin has a year of college soccer under her belt, definitely a bonus as she enters Marquette a sophomore. She is extremely versatile in her play and her style fits well with our program. It will be exciting to see her play for us," Roeders said of the lone transfer in the group.
The Golden Eagles report back to campus the first week in August and begin their 2015 campaign with an exhibition match at Wisconsin on Thursday, Aug. 13 in Madison, Wisconsin. Marquette is looking to return to the NCAA Championship in 2015 after missing the national postseason tournament in 2014 for the first time in seven years.
