Marquette Travels to Georgetown Friday Night

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette University women's basketball team will take its season-long five-game winning streak on the road this weekend, beginning Friday, Feb. 5 at Georgetown. Tip-off is slated for 6:05 p.m. Central time.
The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Ryan Sakamoto and Ben Gordon-Goldstein calling the action from McDonough Gymnasium.
With five consecutive victories, and six wins in their last seven tries, the Golden Eagles (11-11, 6-5 BIG EAST) are the hottest team in the conference, and are playing some of the best basketball seen from a Marquette team in recent memory.
Much of the Golden Eagles' recent success can be attributed to the season that freshman guard Allazia Blockton is putting together. After etching her name in the Marquette record books by tallying a freshman record 416 points, the Milwaukee, Wis., native will now look to re-write the BIG EAST Conference record of 335 points, set by Providence's Kerri Chatten in the 1994-1995 season.
Blockton, the six-time reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, leads all freshmen in the conference in scoring, ranks fifth among freshmen in the NCAA, and her 18.9 ppg average has the rookie third in the ladder among all players. She sits just a point behind Seton Hall's Tabitha Richardson-Smith who is averaging 19.9 points per contest. In addition to being MU's top scorer, Blockton also leads the Blue and Gold on the boards, raking up an impressive 7.6 rpg to make her the conference's leading rebounder among guards.
Despite Blockton's prowess, MU's current winning stretch would not have been attainable without the contributions from fellow freshmen Natisha Hiedeman and Erika Davenport. Despite struggling from the field in Marquette's win vs. No. RV/24 Seton Hall, Hiedeman still owns the tenth best scoring average in the league, netting 13.9 points per contest. Davenport, like her aforementioned classmates, is averaging double figures in scoring at 10.7 ppg, while quietly leading the BIG EAST in field goal percentage, shooting a hot 56.1% from the field.
Georgetown (12-9, 5-6 BIG EAST), much like the Marquette, is paced by a rookie on the offensive side, with freshman guard Dionna White serving as the Hoyas' catalyst. The Baltimore, Md., native is currently leading her team with a 14.6 ppg average, and has added team best 79 assists on the season. Sophomore Dorothy Adomako has also played well for the Hoyas, posting 14.0 points per contest while rebounding at a 5.9 rpg clip. Georgetown will look to make it tough for MU to score, as the Hoyas bring the conference's top field goal percentage defense into the matchup, forcing opponents to shoot a cool 36.5% from the field.
