NEW YORK - Marquette University sophomore Zachary Melillo earned recognition on Monday afternoon with a selection to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll for his work at the faceoff X against Ohio State and Detroit at the Midwest Lacrosse Classic.
Melillo went 18-of-19 on faceoffs (94.7 percent) against Detroit on Sunday afternoon to help the Golden Eagles (3-1) pull out a 10-8 victory at Ohio Stadium. The Warren, New Jersey native picked up nine ground balls and won his first 18 faceoffs against the Titans before being called for a violation on the day's final draw.
Against the Buckeyes, who conceded only 4-of-23 faceoffs to MU in 2015, Melillo helped the Golden Eagles capture possession on 11 occasions and secured six ground balls.
Melillo, in his first season as a transfer from NJIT, has won 62 percent (44-of-71) of his faceoffs this season after MU was a combined 43 percent a year ago.
The Golden Eagles will host Robert Morris at 1 p.m. Central time on Saturday, March 12 at Valley Fields.
