MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's soccer team will travel to Madison on Sunday, May 1 to go up against Northwestern at 11 a.m. followed by a 12:30 p.m. match against Wisconsin.
Last Sunday, the Golden Eagles drew 2-2 with Valparaiso at Valley Fields. Morgan Proffitt got Marquette on the scoreboard right before halftime to cut Valparaiso's lead to 2-1 after the Crusaders scored the match's first two goals. Freshman midfielder Leah Celarek then netted the game-tying goal in the 83rd minute.
Northwestern finished its 2015 fall season with a 14-6-2 record led by junior Addie Steiner who had 21 points on seven goals and seven assists. The Wildcats were eliminated by Michigan 1-0 in their first game of the Big Ten Tournament. The last time Marquette and Northwestern met was in 2014 at Valley Fields with the Wildcats claiming the 1-0 victory.
The Badgers finished last season with an 11-6-3 record. Midfielder Rose Lavelle led the team with 17 points, finishing with seven goals and three assists. Lavelle and MU's Morgan Proffitt will each be absent from the pitch on Sunday afternoon as both are competing at the United States U-23 Women's National Team training camp in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The Golden Eagles and Badgers last met during the fall in an exhibition game, finishing with a 1-1 draw.
