Marquette Travels To No. 7/7 Creighton Saturday

The Marquette University men's basketball team (12-6, 3-3 BIG EAST) continues BIG EAST Conference play at 1:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Jan. 21 when the squad travels to No. 7/7 Creighton (18-1, 5-1 BIG EAST). FOX?will feature Marquette's 18th national television broadcast of the campaign, with Justin Kutcher (play-by-play) and Nick Bahe (analyst) calling the action from the CenturyLink Center. Following Saturday's game, MU will host No. 1/2 Villanova on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in the team's third-straight game against a top-15 opponent.
Marquette-Creighton Series Dates Back To 1922-23
Marquette's all-time series against Creighton spans nearly the entirety of the program's 100-year history, which is being celebrated all season long in 2016-17.
The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series 50-32 and the 2015-16 campaign saw each team post victories on the road in the home-and-home series. In the most recent matchup, Marquette claimed a 66-61 victory on Feb. 24, 2016 at CenturyLink Center. Forward Henry Ellenson led the way with 22 points and 10 rebounds and guard Jajuan Johnson narrowly missed a double-double of his own, finishing with 15 points and nine boards.
Prior to 2013-14, the most recent meeting between the two programs came in the 1998 National Invitation Tournament. MU posted an 80-68 victory in the opening round at the BMO Harris Bradley Center en route to an appearance in the event's quarterfinals.
Marquette has claimed 23 of the last 31 outings, including 10-straight between 1975 and 1984.
Offense Should Be On Display Saturday
Saturday's matchup at the CenturyLink Center features the top-two scoring teams in the BIG EAST Conference.
Creighton is currently tops in the league and 12th in the nation in scoring offense (86.7 ppg.) and Marquette is second in the conference and 20th in the country at 83.7 ppg. Through the first six games of BIG EAST action, the two programs are also in possession of the top offensive attacks.
The teams are also at the top of the conference in field goal percentage. Creighton is currently knocking down 53.1 percent of its shots to rank first and Marquette is third at 48.9 percent.
Howard Tabbed BIG EAST Freshman Of The Week
Freshman guard Markus Howard was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Jan. 16 after helping lead Marquette to wins over Seton Hall and DePaul.
The Chandler, Arizona native averaged 15.5 points and 3.5 assists per game in the victories and shot 50.0 percent from behind the 3-point line and the floor overall. He netted 22 points in the overtime victory against the Pirates and has now scored 20-or-more points in four of the team's six league outings.
Classmate Sam Hauser claimed the award on Nov. 14 for his efforts in the season-opening win over Vanderbilt.
