MILWAUKEE - Markus Howard tied a career-high with 34 points and Andrew Rowsey had the first double-double of his career as Marquette surged past Vermont, 91-81, on Tuesday evening at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
Howard posted the fourth 30-point outing of the year for the Golden Eagles (6-3) and his second. The sophomore converted on six-of-11 3-pointers and went 6-of-6 from the charity stripe to remain perfect on the year.
Stef Smith led the Catamounts (6-3) with 20 points, while three other players reached double digits.
Rowsey posted his first career double-double (13 points, 10 assists) and the first for a Marquette player since Matt Heldt's 14-point, 10-rebound effort against St. John's on Feb. 21, 2017. It is also the first time an MU player has hit 10 assists in a game since Feb. 27, 2016 against Villanova (Traci Carter, 10).
Freshman Greg Elliott made his second-straight start at guard, while classmate Theo John hit all three of his field goal attempts in 10 minutes.
Marquette travels to in-state rival Wisconsin on Saturday for an 11 a.m. tip at the Kohl Center against the Badgers. The game will be shown live on FS1.
