MILWAUKEE- The Marquette University women's basketball team is set to begin the final weekend of regular season play, as the squad welcomes Georgetown to the Al McGuire Center for a 7:00 p.m. Central time battle on Friday, Feb. 24.
The game will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Patrick Reed and Kyle Dlabay calling the action.
The Golden Eagles (20-7, 11-5) have eclipsed the 20 victory mark for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign and much of the success is due to the efforts of head coach Carolyn Kieger's stellar sophomore class.
Guard Allazia Blockton continues to lead the BIG EAST in scoring, posting a robust 17.3 ppg average, while pulling in 5.9 boards per contest and dishing out 3.4 assists. Newly minted BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week Danielle King has also shined for the Blue and Gold, as the Chicago, Illinois native netted a career-best 28 points on 11-of-13 shooting from the field to lead MU over then- No. 17/15 DePaul, 96-81, on Sunday afternoon.
After sweeping the season series with the first-place Blue Demons, Marquette will look to continue the trend against the Hoyas, as MU took the initial meeting between the two sides, 84-77, in Washington, D.C., on December 30. Blockton led the Golden Eagles offensive attack in that contest, posting 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists, while classmate Natisha Hiedeman added 20 points of her own on 5-of-11 shooting from downtown.
Georgetown (17-9, 9-7) struggled from behind the arc in their first effort against Marquette, shooting just 4-for-18 from three. The key to the Golden Eagles's success was limiting the production of Hoyas double-threat backcourt Dionna White and Dorothy Adomako. The pair, who are currently third and fifth in the league in scoring, respectively, combined to shoot just 8-of-27 from the field and missed all six of their three-point tries.
Following the meeting with Georgetown, Marquette will host Villanova in the regular season finale at the Al on Sunday, Feb 26 at 2:00 p.m. CT.
