STANFORD, California - Matt Murlick shot an opening round even par 70, tied for 11th place as Marquette sits in a four-way tie for 15th (298) following Thursday's play in The Goodwin at Stanford University G.C.
Teeing off on No. 10, Murlick shot 2-over-par on his first eight holes before posting three birdies in his final 10 to come in 2-under-par, placing in the early top five of the event. Murlick and Marquette were part of the first wave in the 24-team, 126-player field to play on Thursday.
Charlie Maleki (T-47, 4-over-par) posted three birdies in his opening round 74.
Host Stanford (4-under-par) was the only team in the field to shoot under par for the day, while Murlick was part of a group of 18 players to finish at par or better. Average scoring on day one was at 74.79.
Marquette will tee off second round play in a grouping with Northern Colorado and Fresno State beginning at 9:41 a.m. CT on Friday.
