NEW YORK--The BIG EAST Conference named Marquette volleyball outside hitter Allie Barber Offensive Player of the Week and libero Martha Konovodoff to the weekly honor roll for their performances in the final stretch of non-conference play.
Barber starred at Milwaukee and in the Badger Classic in a pair of matches against No. 5 Wisconsin and Southern Mississippi. At the Panthers, Barber put up 13 kills and five assisted blocks in a 3-0 victory. Against the Badgers, Barber led all players with 21 kills and added six assisted blocks as Marquette became the first team to win a set against Wisconsin this season. In a sweep of Southern Mississippi, Barber notched 14 kills, once more leading all players in that category. For the week, Barber averaged 4.80 kills/set and brought her season average to 4.66 kills/set and .73 blocks/set.
Barber previously won Offensive Player of the Week after the opening week of the season and was on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor roll Sept. 12. She was also on the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team.
Konovodoff led the league with 4.80 digs per set over the course of the 2-1 week for the Golden Eagles and had a weekly high of 18 digs against No. 5 Wisconsin. She also put up totals of 13 digs at Milwaukee and 17 digs against Southern Mississippi, both straight sets victories. She is averaging a team-high 4.29 digs/set on the season in her freshman campaign. This award marks the third time Konovodoff has won a conference award after she took home both Defensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week Sept. 5.
Barber, Konovodoff and the Golden Eagles kick off conference play at Butler Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. Central time. The Bulldogs are 10-2 on the year and have won seven straight matches, including a 5-1 home record.
