CHICAGO--The Marquette women's basketball team begins the second half of BIG EAST play with a tough test as the Golden Eagles travel to DePaul, Monday, Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. CT.
The game will air nationally on FS1, Marquette's second consecutive game on the network with Lisa Byington and LaChina Robinson calling the action from McGrath-Phillips Arena.
Marquette (14-6, 8-1) heads into the matchup one game ahead of the Blue Demons (15-6, 7-2) for first place in the BIG EAST. Marquette already defeated DePaul at the Al McGuire Center, 93-81 this season and have won the last four against DePaul including in the BIG EAST Tournament Championship last season.
The Blue Demons have a balanced scoring attack, as Mart'e Grays paces five players averaging double figures and DePaul leads the conference with 84 points per game. On the glass, Kelly Campbell leads the way with eight boards a game, putting her in a tie with Erika Davenport for fourth in the conference.
The Golden Eagles have an explosive offense of their own, as Marquette boasts conference leader Allazia Blockton (19.2 points per game) and the Golden Eagles have three additional players in the top 15 in scoring. Blockton's scoring ranks 49th in the NCAA and she is turning in her highest scoring average so far as a Golden Eagle. She is just 41 points away from cracking the top-10 in scoring in program history and currently sits at 11th all-time with 1,510 career points. Fellow juniors Natisha Hiedeman and Davenport joined Blockon in the 1,000 points club this season. Davenport will look to continue her strong play, as she earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her 22 points and 12 rebounds performance at Villanova.
Following DePaul, MU returns home for a pair of games against Providence Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. CT and Creighton Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. CT.
