SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Marquette University women's basketball junior Allazia Blockton has been selected as one of 10 candidates for the 2018 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award given to the top shooting guard in the country in collegiate women's basketball.
Blockton was originally named a 20-person watch list for the inaugural award in November and reached the final list, while producing her finest season as a Golden Eagle. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin native is averaging a career-best 18.8 points per game, which leads the BIG EAST Conference and is the only league player to be selected as Player of the Week on more than one occasion. Blockton is also pulling down 6.7 rebounds per game and shooting at a 51.9 percent clip from the field. She was selected as the unanimous BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year and is the league's active scoring leader with 1,521 career points, which ranks 11th in Marquette history. Blockton is on-track to surpass the program record 1,940 career points set by Krystal Ellis.
