The Golden Eagles to host seven games at Valley Fields plus the 2019 BIG EAST Championship
MILWAUKEE – Head coach Meredith Black and the Marquette University women's lacrosse program has released the 2019 regular season schedule. It includes seven home games, beginning with Notre Dame on Feb. 8, and the 2019 BIG EAST Championship, hosted at Valley Fields, May 2-4.
Â
Another challenging slate of opponents face the Golden Eagles in 2019, highlighted by four returning NCAA tournament teams and five that finished the 2018 season ranked in the IWLCA Top-25 poll.
Â
The season begins with a pair of home games, including the regular season opener as Notre Dame makes its first trip to Milwaukee since 2015, followed by Louisville, which scraped out a one-goal victory the last time both teams met at Valley Fields back in 2016.
Â
Marquette faces its first road test at former BIG EAST-foe Cincinnati on Feb. 15. The Golden Eagles have won five-straight meetings against the Bearcats as league members, but this season will mark the first as non-league foes as Cincinnati, along with UConn, Florida, Temple and Vanderbilt all leave to join the American Athletic Conference.
Â
The Golden Eagles return home on Feb. 17 to face Detroit Mercy for the first time in three seasons before embarking on their most daunting stretch of the campaign: Seven games away from Valley Fields in a span of 35 days between home games.
Â
The trip begins with Kennesaw State, (Feb. 23), Ohio State (March 1) and High Point (March 3) before a trio of spring break games at Stetson (March 10), Canisius (March 15) and Niagara (March 17). It wraps up with Central Michigan on March 21.
Â
Marquette finishes the regular season with four of its final six games at home as Northwestern makes only its second trip ever to Milwaukee on March 23. The Golden Eagles finish with all five BIG EAST Conference games to close out the year, including three at home. MU opens league play at home for the second year in a row, looking to make it four-straight wins over Villanova on March 30.
Â
Butler then visits Valley Fields on April 6 before back-to-back road games, beginning with new BIG EAST league member Old Dominion on April 13. The Golden Eagles then head to Denver to take on the Pioneers before returning home to face Georgetown for the regular season finale and annual PanCAN game on April 27.
Â
Marquette aims for their second-straight bid to the BIG EAST Conference tournament after making it to the postseason for the first time in program history one year ago.
Â
There's extra incentive for the Golden Eagles in 2019 as they will serve as host of the BIG EAST tournament for the first time when the league's top-four teams make their way to Valley Fields, May 2-4.
