Distance Runners Highlight Day One at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa - Marquette kicked off the 109th Drake Relays with distance runners taking center stage, highlighted by Meghan Carroll's personal-best performance and fifth-fastest 800-meter time in school history on Thursday night.
Carroll ran a time of 2:10.37 to narrowly beat her previous top time and improve her No. 5 mark all-time in Marquette history. Her time was good for eighth place.
Additional highlights include Jennifer Parker (5,000 meters), who set a 13-second personal-best and placed eighth overall, and Caitlin McGauley (10,000 meters), who set a 46-second personal-best and placed 16th.
On the men's side, Aric Miller placed sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.55, while Kevin Ryan, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, also placed sixth with a time of 9:17.02.
Friday's action begins for Marquette at 10 a.m. Central time with Terica Harris in the long jump and Eric Fellin in the javelin. Throwers as well as the 1,500 meters and 4x100 and 4x800 relays will also be in action.
