Jessica Parker earns distinction for third-straight season
NEW ORLEANS – The Marquette University men's and women's teams were honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday, while Jessica Parker earned individual accolades.
Both squads not only turned in impressive seasons on the track, but in the classroom as well. The men registered a cumulative team grade point average of 3.16 and the women compiled a 3.49 GPA, meeting the criteria of a 3.0 GPA to garner USTFCCCA recognition.
It marked the 12th season in a row the Marquette women were honored and 13th time in the past 14 seasons overall.
Individually, Parker was honored for the third time in her career, including the third-consecutive season. The Neenah, Wisconsin, native graduated cum laude with honors after majoring in biomedical sciences with minor degrees in neuroscience and psychology.
Individual selection specifications are designed to combine both academics and athletics. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student athlete must have compiled a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top-96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org. For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
Last year, Brittney Feivor, Monique Felix and Parker earned individual USTFCCCA All-Academic accolades.
