MILWAUKEE– The Marquette University men's and women's soccer teams will hold their annual Fan Fest at Valley Fields on Saturday, Aug. 11 and both squads will play exhibition matches against Loyola Chicago and Mississippi State, respectively. The event and both games are free to attend and open to all.
The men's game against the Ramblers is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. and Fan Fest activities commencing with the women's team taking part at 6 p.m. on the middle turf field. The women will then face the Bulldogs at 8 p.m. in their second and final scrimmage of the preseason.
Fan Fest, which is expected to conclude at the start of the women's match at 8 p.m., features a free Qdoba bar and a skills zone with current Marquette soccer players in addition to a giant inflatable foot darts game. The women's squad will participate prior to their match and the men will join at the conclusion of their game.
Both squads will be available to autograph their 2018 schedule posters and the event will have a face painter and balloon artist.
The Marquette men last met Loyola in 2017 exhibition tilt on Aug. 19 and came away with a 1-0 victory on a header by then-freshman Manuel Cukaj in the 18th minute. The Golden Eagles are 13-0-1 against Loyola Chicago in regular season action and have also faced the Ramblers in a 2015 exhibition match since their last regular season meeting in 2013. Cukaj, a defender, is one of two returning all-conference performers for the men after earning all-freshman team honors a season ago. He was joined by All-BIG EAST Second Team selection Luka Prpa.
The women, who were picked third in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll for the third year in a row, will take on Mississippi State for the first time in program history. Unanimous All-BIG EAST Preseason Team selection Carrie Madden leads the Golden Eagles into their final exhibition contest after scoring the match winner in Monday's 2-0 victory at Green Bay. Redshirt sophomore Abby Hess scored the final goal in the last 18 seconds of regulation for a squad that returns seven of 11 starters from 2017.
The men will play one final exhibition match on Saturday, Aug. 18 at Green Bay, while the women open regular season action on Thursday, Aug. 16 at Cal Poly before returning to Milwaukee to host Wisconsin on Monday, Aug. 20 in a match broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
