After three seasons as assistant, Caitlin Fifield has been elevated to associate head coach
MILWAUKEE – Marquette University women's lacrosse head coach Meredith Black has announced that Caitlin Fifield has been elevated to associate head coach following three strong seasons of serving as an assistant.
Â
"In just three years, Caitlin has made such a positive impact on our program," Black said. "It shows through not only our growing trend offensively but, most importantly, through her passion and excitement for our program.
Â
"She inspires everyone around her to be better and work harder, bringing passion into what they do each day. Her commitment to the success of this program is evident. In addition, Caitlin has been integral to our recruiting process, working very hard to help us get the best players from all areas of the country."
Â
As an assistant to Black over the last three seasons, Fifield has helped the Golden Eagles reach new heights offensively. The team has increased its scoring output in each of her three seasons with the 2018 season setting yet another program record with 244 goals (13.56/game) scored, which finished just outside the nation's top-30.
Â
Single-season goals record have been set in each of the previous two seasons with Julianna Shearer scoring a BIGEAST-record 55 goals in 2017, followed by Grace Gabriel's 56 goals in 2018. Gabriel became the program's first-ever IWLCA All-America selection and first Golden Eagle to earn the BIG EAST's honor of Co-Midfielder of the Year.
Â
"I am truly honored for this opportunity to grow in such a strong and successful athletic department at Marquette University," Fifield said. "I'm extremely grateful to Coach Black and the athletic administration for their support and guidance during my time here. I look forward to continue working with such an incredible team and staff and helping Marquette Lacrosse continue to grow and improve on and off the field."
Â
The North Babylon, New York, native got her coaching start at Wagner College, where she spent two seasons helping transform an offense that led to a school-record 11 wins and a Northeast Conference championships game appearance in 2014.
Â
Fifield spent her playing career at Richmond, where she twice earned First Team All-A10 honors, a second team selection and an All-Rookie Team nod. She finished her career fourth on the all-time list in goals (174), seventh in assists (55) and third in points (229) for the Spiders.
Â
In 2009, she was a member of the Canadian National Team and earned a top-34 roster spot in the summer of 2012. In 2016, she was again invited to try out for Team Canada ahead of the 2017 FIL World Cup in London.
Â
The Golden Eagles return the majority of its roster, including over 70 percent of its scoring output, in 2019.
