Barber and Konovodoff Earn Player of the Week Honors

The duo helped lead Marquette to a 2-1 opening week

NEW YORK-- Junior Allie Barber and sophomore Martha Konovodoff have been named BIG EAST Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for week one of the season the league office announced on Tuesday.

Barber was stellar for Marquette (2-1) at the 2018 Hampton Inn & Suite Baylor Invitational, tallying 42 kills, for 4.20 per set, including a weekend-high 19 against No. 19 Baylor. She hit .340 through three matches with 0.40 blocks per set.

Konovodoff totaled 5.90 digs per set, second in the BIG EAST in opening weekend, with 22 kills in a sweep over Texas State and against No. 16 Baylor. She was named Best Defender at the Baylor Invitational following the conclusion of the tournament.

The Golden Eagles are receiving votes in week one of the AVCA Coaches Poll and will travel to St. Louis this weekend for matches against Kansas State, Western Kentucky and SLU.
