NEW YORK-- Marquette University junior Allie Barber has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday, while sophomore Martha Konovodoff was selected to the weekly honor roll.
Barber and Konovodoff each earned Marquette Invitational All-Tournament team honors in helping lead Marquette (7-2) to a 2-1 weekend with wins over then-No. 10 USC and Syracuse, the lone loss coming in a four-set battle to current top-ranked BYU.
Barber connected on 29 kills in the win over USC, one shy of her career high and finished with a .473 hitting percentage, averaging 4.54 kills per set over three games and hit for a .353 clip. She currently leads the BIG EAST with 4.47 kills per set and is third overall with a .354 hitting percentage.
Konovodoff averaged 4.92 digs per set through the three matches, including 27 against USC and 23 in the four-set match with BYU. Her current 4.81 digs per set average check in at fourth overall in the league.
Marquette is currently ranked No. 21 in AVCA Coaches Poll, which is the highest ranking in program history. The Golden Eagles will host No. 6 Wisconsin, Illinois State and Tulsa in a home tournament this weekend. The rivalry match with Wisconsin is slated for Friday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. CT at the Al McGuire Center.
