Week was highlighted by school-record 53 points
Marquette University men's basketball player Markus Howard has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning.

The accolade is the fourth of the season (Nov. 12, Dec. 3, Dec. 23, Jan. 14) and sixth of his career for the junior guard. He also earned the conference's top freshman award on three occasions in 2016-17. Former Creighton standout Doug McDermott holds the single-season weekly honor record with eight in 2013-14.
Â
In wins over Creighton and Seton Hall, Howard averaged 39.5 points, 6.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting 47.8 percent (22-of-46) from the field overall and 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from behind the 3-point line. He also knocked down 22-of-24 free throws (91.7 percent).
Â
Howard's week was highlighted by a 53-point effort in the overtime win at Creighton, which set a new BIG EAST and Marquette single-game record. He is the only collegiate player in the last 20 years to have to 50-point games. He scored 52 points in 2017-18 in an overtime win at Providence.
